A number when divided successively by 4 and 5 leaves remainders 1 and 4 respectively, when it is successively divided by 5 and 4, what will be the respective remainders? (Number concept)

প্রশ্নে বলা হচ্ছে যে, কোনো সংখ্যাকে যখন 4 এবং তার ভাগফলকে 5 দ্বারা ভাগ করলে ভাগশেষ যথাক্রমে 1 এবং 4 থাকে। সংখ্যাটিকে 5 এবং তার ভাগফলকে 4 দ্বারা ভাগ করা হলে ভাগশেষ কত থাকবে?

Let, the number be x

and the quotient be y

So, x = 4y + 1 ……………….. (i)

Again, the quotient of y and z

So, y= 5z+4………………….(ii)

If z = 1 then y = 5.1 +4= 5+4= 9

From (i) x = 4 x 9 = 36

x= 36+1=37

Now, $37 \div 5 = 7 \frac{5}{2} = 2$

again, $4 \div 7 = 1 \frac{4}{3} = 3$

ans. The respective remainders will be 2 & 3.
