WhatsApp is one of the most important messaging applications available in the internet domain. Most of the people use WhatsApp on their smart phone to share messages and images with each other. It is an important form of social media that has influenced the psyche of the modern users, especially the teens. Around 1 billion people in over 180 nations use WhatsApp to make voice calls, video calls, and share massage with friends and family. However, it has its own pros and com that are listed below. 

Positive impacts
1) Cost-effective: Whats App is free of cost and teenagers are making use of it for exchanging information by transmitting messages. Wherever the internet is accessible, social media app WhatsApp' is being used without spending even a penny. One can send unlimited message and make national or international phone calls and do video calling with friends at no cost. 

ii) Whats App is inundated with lots of features such as uploading the files including the image and videos. Once the application is installed, it can automatically import the contacts from the smart phone providing information to the users. 

iii) Global coverage: Making international calls or even sending SMS internationally is a really expensive activity. Irrespective of the service provider, international calls and message cost a lot. WhatsApp, however utilize data only and charges are the same across the globe. 

iv) Facilitating business: WhatsApp has played a very important role in accelerating the business communication between the supplier and the customers. They not only exchange information but also work on creative ideas to find solution to the problems. 

Negative Impacts: 

i) Very distracting for students and youth: WhatsApp is known to cause addition to the teenagen as they continue to check the phone for messages. As a result, people are not able to focus on important tasks. The continuous receiving of jokes and trolls can drive people insane and make the crazy. In addition to teenagers too regularly keep checking their phones to see if they have a new message or a replay. This leads to a lot of time waste and loss of productivity. 

ii) Not cross-device compatible: One of its disadvantages is that WhatsApp only works in a smart phone with an interest connection and can be used to send messages only to a person who fulfils the same requirements. In a nutshell, it is a restrictive technology for the users. Moreover, data from the application can not be transferred to the inbox of the phone. 

iii) Aloofness from the real world: People engaged with WhatsApp lose their touch to the outside world. As a result, they become social inaccessible and aloof. No interaction with the society proves harmful to the WhatsApp addict. They are extremely obsessed with sharing of selfies, videos and audio files among friends. 

In fine, it can be side that WhatsApp has increased our social network and decreased the geographical distance between users, but it also has started to become more of an addiction than convenience. Moreover, it is not a black and white app but a grey app whose pros and cons depend on the user himself.
