Green Banking is a type of banking from which the nation and country gets long-term benefits. A general bank turns into a green bank by coordinating its core activities toward the improvement of environment. The idea of green banking was created in the western nations. Green Banking was formally launched in 2003 with the end goal of ensuring the climate. There are two different ways of green financial practices. One is in-house green banking; another is practice by the brokers in their business region. Making perfect and sterile financial condition, green structure, reforestation, web based banking, squander the executives, establishment of solar panel on the housetop of the bank and utilizing high mileage vehicles, lessening sound contamination, utilizing webcam for video conferencing rather than physical gatherings, online explanations, messaging reports are incorporated into the in-house Green Banking.

Role of green banking for sustainable development 

There are very close relations between green banking and sustainable development To be economically viable and environmentally sustainable any development must have feasibility to bring economic profitability. Environmental conservation featured with up gradation of its ecosystem parameters and wellbeing of those very social stakeholders. In this particular viewpoint, green banking is one of the key banking principles intensively takes care of environmental improvisation in the financing portfolios by banks and financial institutions. Green Banking aims at environmental sustainability and climate change resilience those are key elements of inclusive socio-economic development strategy. It also addresses in-house green banking activities of the institutions, establishments and individuals. Therefore, prerequisites of sustainable development is sustainable finance, which technically can lead green banking along with other environment friendly investment activities of financial sectors in the end. 

Bangladesh bank first introduced the regulations of Green banking in the year 2011. State Owned Bank. State Owned Commercial Bank, Private Commercial Bank and Foreign Commercial Bank etc., all banks are working diligently on Green Banking as instructed by Bangladesh Bank. According to the report of Bangladesh Bank on "Green Banking 2013", all scheduled banks have developed their own Green Banking Policy and Green Banking unit. Banks have distributed 793,561.25 million Taka in 10,868 projects. Banks have distributed 270,921.53 Million Taka in 2012 as Green Financing. Banks utilized 258.89 Million Taka as CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) in Green Banking Activities and Green Projects. Banks are focusing highly on Green Marketing, Training and Development utilizing 90.42 million taka from their fund. Current situation of online banking is 3,445 branches among 8,392 branches (41.05%) are completely technologically enriched. State Owned Banks and Specialized Development Banks have continued working on online internet and SMS banking initiatives. 

Bangladesh Bank (BB) has been proactively guiding the banks and NBFIS for diverse sustainable banking initiatives since 2011. Regarding these green banking initiatives of BB broadly categorized into the following aspects: policy initiatives, monitoring of green banking activities of banks and NBFIs, refinance support from Bangladesh Bank in diverse green products/ sectors, and Bangladesh's own initiatives for environmental management. Some other initiatives that can be taken for the sustainable development of Bangladesh: 

a) Playing direct role for protection of environmental pollution at national and international level through adoption of environment friendly banking policy. 

b) Encouraging project finance in environment friendly projects and discouraging the projects detrimental to good environment. 

c) Adoption of Social commitment and ethics consciousness based banking policy. 

d) Ensure the optimum use of gas, water, electricity, office-stationery, etc. 

e) Increasing the use of on-line communication, on-line customer service, ATM, etc. 

f) Protection of forest resources through optimum use of paper and toner. 

g) Increase environment friendly activities in customer service, financing, internal environment of management, i.e. growth in on-line customer service, ATM, etc. 

h) Development of environment consciousness among bankers and customers.

i) Priorities the environment friendly and energy saving technology in official procurement. 

j) Provide sponsorship for the development of public consciousness through encourages the environment friendly activities. 

k) Publishing and communicating memo, circular, statement through web mail/ web site without normal printing.

                                                                                                         গ্রামীণ অর্থনীতিতে ক্ষুদ্র ঋণের ভূমিকা

Microcredit বা ক্ষুদ্রঋণ বলতে প্রাথমিক পর্যায়ে যতটুকু পরিমাণ টাকা গরীব জনগণ কোনো উৎপাদনমূলক কর্মকাণ্ড বা দ্রব্য ক্রয়-বিক্রয় করে আয় বৃদ্ধি বা পারিবারিক ব্যয় করতে পারে তাকেই বুঝায়। অন্যভাবে, অল্প পরিমাণ পুঁজি আয় বৃদ্ধিকারক কাজে জামানতবিহীনভাবে প্রদান করাকে ক্ষুদ্রঋণ সুঝায়। বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংকের সাবেক গর্ভনর ড. সালেহ উদ্দিন আহমদ ক্ষুদ্রঋণের সংজ্ঞায় বলেন, Microcredit may be defined as a program that provides credit for self- employment and other financial services and business services to the poor people. 

ক্ষুদ্রঋণের বৈশিষ্ট্যগুলি হলোঃ গরিবদের জন্য ঋণ, জামানতমুক্ত ঋণ, সাংগঠনিক প্রেসার বা চাপ সৃষ্টির ঋণ, পল্প আকারের ঋণ, আত্ম-কর্মসংস্থানের জন্য ব্যবহৃত ঋণ। 

বাংলাদেশে ক্ষুদ্রঋণ কর্মসূচির উদ্দেশ্য ও সফলতার মিশ্র ফলাফল রয়েছে। মূলত এই কর্মসূচির প্রধান উদ্দেশ্য হলো দরিদ্র্যা বিমোচন ও নারীর ক্ষমতায়ন। সেই হিসেবে ক্ষুদ্রঋণ কর্মসূচি দারিদ্র্য বিমোচনের একমাত্র হাতিয়ার হতে পারে না, কারণ এটা দিয়েই শুধু দারিদ্র্য বিমোচন সম্ভব নয়। তবে ক্ষুদ্রঋণ কর্মসূচি বাংলাদেশের গ্রামীণ অর্থনীতিতে অনেক পরিবর্তন এনে দিয়েছে। নারীর ক্ষমতায়নের পাশাপাশি আর্থ সামাজিক উন্নয়নেও ভূমিকা রাখছে ক্ষুদ্রঋণ কার্যক্রম। 

ক্ষুদ্রঋণের মাধ্যমে স্থানীয় পর্যায়ে উদ্যোক্তা তৈরী হচ্ছে। নারী ও পুরুষ ক্ষুদ্রঋণের মাধ্যমে আত্ম-কর্মসংস্থানের ব্যবস্থা করছে। নারীরা গৃহস্থলির কাজ কর্ম ছাড়াও এখন মাঝারি ধরনের ব্যবসার সাথে জড়িয়ে পড়ছে। হাঁস-মুরগী পালনসহ বিভিন্ন ধরনের হস্তশিল্প উৎপাদনে নারীরা অগ্রণী ভূমিকা রাখছে। আর্থিকভাবে হয়ে উঠছে তারা স্বাবলম্বী। এর ফলে পরিবারে সিন্ধান্ত গ্রহণের সময় পূর্বের তুলনায় এমন নারীর মতামতকে প্রধান্য দেয়া হচ্ছে। ক্ষুদ্রঋণের মাধ্যমে পুরুষরা এখন পুকুরে মাছ চাষসহ বনায়ন, স্থানীয় ব্যবসায় জাড়িয়ে পড়ছে যা তাদের আর্থিক স্বাবলম্বীর দিকে নিয়ে যাচ্ছে। 

প্রচলিত ব্যাংক ব্যবস্থা থেকে হাজার হাজার কোটি টাকা ঋণ নিয়ে আর ফেরত দিচ্ছে না একটি গোষ্ঠী যা অর্থনীতির ভাষায় খেলাপী বলা হয়। এই খেলাপী ঋণের পরিমাণ এখন এক লাখ কোটিরও বেশি। এটি যেকোন অর্থনীতির জন্য একটি ভয়াবহ অশনিসংকেত। কিন্তু গ্রামীণ দরিদ্র মানুষ বিভিন্ন ধরনের NGO হতে ক্ষুদ্রঋণ নিয়ে তারা তাদের ব্যবসা হতে অর্জিত মুনাফার মাধ্যমে তা পরিশোধ করছে যা ব্যাংকিং ব্যবস্থার জন্য একটি অনন্য উদাহরণ। ক্ষুদ্র ঋণের মাধ্যমে সামাজিক ও অর্থনৈতিক পর্যায়ে ক্ষুদ্র ক্ষুদ্র পরিবর্তন সাধিত হচ্ছে। 

ক্ষুদ্র ঋণের কিছু নেতিবাচক ভূমিকাঃ ক্ষুদ্রঋণের কিছু নেতিবাচক ভূমিকা রয়েছে। প্রথমদিকে প্রচলিত ক্ষুদ্রঋণ গ্রহীতারা পারিবারিক, সামাজিক, মানসিক সমস্যার সম্মুখিন হত। ঋণগ্রহীতাদের সামাজিক সমস্যাগুলি তাদের সাংস্কৃতিক গঠন ও অর্থনৈতিক সংকট থেকে উদ্ভূত। ঋণ কার্যক্রমে যুক্ত হবার পর ঋণ গ্রহীতার নতুন এক মানসিক দুশ্চিন্তার মুখোমুখি হন। ঋণের টাকা যেই ব্যবহার করুক না কেন নারীকেই ঋণের কিস্তি নির্দিষ্ট সময়ের মধ্যে পরিশোধ করতে হবে। এ নিয়ে তাদেরকে বেশি দুশ্চিন্তায় থাকতে হয়। কিস্তি সময়মত পরিশোধ করতে না পারলে ঋণ বন্ধ হয়ে যেতে পারে। অথবা সে ঋণ পরিশোধ নাও হতে পারে। গরু, ছাগল ইত্যাদি যে কোন কিছুর বিনিময়ে ঋণের টাকা ফেরৎ পেতে কর্মীদেরও তৎপরতা মানবতা ছাড়িয়ে যায়। ঋণ গ্রহণের এক সপ্তাহ পর থেকেই কিস্তি পরিশোধ করতে হয় বলে তাদেরকে অন্যান্য আয়ের উপর নির্ভর করতে হয়। 

আলোচনার পরিশেষে বলা চলে যে, ক্ষুদ্রঋণ কার্যসূচির বিষয়ে সবচেয়ে বড় অভিযোগ হলো সুদের হার। সুদের হার যৌক্তিক পর্যায়ে নামিয়ে ও কিস্তির সময়কাল বাড়িয়ে দিলে এই ঋণদান কর্মসূচির মাধ্যমে গ্রামীণ অর্থনীতির আমূল পরিবর্তন সম্ভব।

মানুষের মৌলিক চাহিদাগুলোর মধ্যে প্রধান হলো খাদ্য। সুস্থ, সবল আর স্বাভাবিকভাবে বেঁচে থাকার জন্য মানুষ যে খাৰৰ যায়, তা ভেজালবিহীন হওয়া একান্ত বাঞ্ছনীয়। কিন্তু বাংলাদেশের মানুষ দিনের পর দিন ভেজাল খাদ্য খেয়ে জটিল মারাত্মক সব রোগে আক্রান্ত হচ্ছে। 

দেশজুড়ে খাদ্যে ভেজালের কারণ অনুসন্ধান করতে গিয়ে জানা যায় যে নৈতিক মূল্যবোধের চরম অবক্ষয়, ভেজালবিরোধ আন্দোলনের অপর্যাপ্ততা এবং ক্রেতা-অধিকার সম্পর্কে সাধারণ মানুষের অজ্ঞতাই মূলত খাদ্যে ভেজালের কারণ। ফরমালিন, ক্যালসিয়াম কার্বাইডসহ বিভিন্ন বিষাক্ত কেমিক্যাল ব্যবহার করে মাছ-মাংস, ফলমূল, শাকসবজি ও তরিতরকারি সজীব খ সতেজ রাখা হয়, যা ওই সব খাদ্যদ্রব্যকে মারাত্মকভাবে বিষাক্ত করে। আর এসব কেমিক্যাল মিশ্রিত খাদ্য গ্রহণ করে মানুষের কিডনি ও লিভার নষ্ট হচ্ছে, দৃষ্টিশক্তি হ্রাস পাচ্ছে, আক্রান্ত হচ্ছে ক্যান্সারের মতো দুরারোগ্য ব্যাধিতে। বেশির ভাগ হোটেল, রেস্টুরেন্ট ও খাবারের দোকানে খাবারের মান খুবই খারাপ ও ভেজালযুক্ত। মোটকথা, আমাদের দেশে চলছে ভেজাল খাদ্যের মহোৎসব। যদি এ অবস্থা চলতে থাকে, তবে জাতি হিসেবে আমাদের অস্তিত্ব কোথায় গিয়ে দাঁড়াবে, তা ভারতেই শরীর শিউরে ওঠে। অচিরেই যদি এ অবস্থার নিরসন করা না যায়, তবে এর চিত্র যে কত ভয়াবহ হবে, তা কল্পনাতীত। 

বাংলাদেশে খাদ্যে ভেজাল প্রতিরোধের জন্য যে কোনো আইন প্রণয়ন হয়নি, তা নয়। বিশুদ্ধ খাদ্য বিল ২০০৫' নামে একটি আইন করা হয়েছে, যাতে সর্বোচ্চ তিন লাখ টাকা জরিমানা ও তিন বছরের সশ্রম কারাদণ্ডের বিধান রাখা হয়েছে। কিন্তু দেশে খাদ্যে ভেজালের চিত্র যে ভয়াবহ রূপ ধারণ করেছে, সেখানে এই আইন পর্যাপ্ত নয়। ফলে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের হলে শিয়ালের মাংস, হোটেলে মরা মুরগির মাংস খাইয়ে ধরা পড়েও অপরাধী পার পেয়ে যায়, আর আমরা যে তিমিরে আছি, সে তিমিরেই রয়ে গেছি। আসলে উন্নত দেশগুলোতে ক্রেতারা যে সুযোগ-সুবিধা ভোগ করে, তা আমাদের দেশে স্বপ্নের মতো মনে হয়। 

অতএব আপনার নিকট আকুল আবেদন এই যে, খাদ্যে ভেজালের যথাযথ কারণ চিহ্নিত পূর্বক সকল খাদ্যের ভেজাল নিরাসনকল্পে আপনার একান্ত মর্জি হয়।
